Choo Jong-Wan
I work on what counteracts and reveals against truth, purity, honesty, innocence, and transparency. From the critical viewpoints, viewed are lots of problems caused by the prevailing dehumanization of falsehood, corruption, and hypocrisy in these times. The ages we are in now are a pupa’s empty skin left after it casts off its skin, then flying away. The dignity and identity of man are lost, his only vacant skin left. The false becomes the true. We know a false wolf in a sheep’s clothing as a true sheep. Even the absolute truth is judged right or wrong by the worldly vague power and right under the pretense of justice. I see the skin, not the core in it.
진실함, 순수함, 정직함, 깨끗함, 투명함의 반작용으로 드러나는 것이 나의 작업이다. 이 시대에 만연하는 허위, 비리, 가식, 거짓의 인간성 상실로 생긴 많은 문제점들을 비판적 시각에서 바라본다. 우리가 살아가는 지금 이 시대는 나비가 번데기를 탈피하고 날아가 버린 뒤 남아있는 그 껍데기이다. 인간의 존엄성, 정체성은 잃어버리고 속은 텅 비어 있는 그 껍데기 밖에 남아 있지 않다. 거짓이 참이 되고, 참으로 가장한 거짓을 우리는 참으로 알고 있으며, 절대적인 하나의 기준마저 모호해진 세상에서 힘과 권력이 정의라는 가면을 쓰고 옳고 그름을 결정지어 버린다. 나는 그 속의 알맹이가 아닌 껍데기를 보고 있다.
