Several months ago, my father started a charity to support multicultural inhabitants of Korea. My father’s passionate devotion to helping under-privileged immigrants triggered my curiosity towards the lives of those minorities. I gradually began to open my eyes to the discrimination that foreigners in Korea sadly endure. Having been an immigrant myself in my childhood years, I decided to help these multicultural families find this foreign land their true home. Combining this goal with my artistic interest, I founded Color of Dreams, an organization that provides artistic and educational opportunities for children of multicultural backgrounds, who are often denied the same opportunities that Korean children enjoy. This exhibition is intended to raise awareness of this social issue by displaying and auctioning the children’s artworks, along with the works of artists and students, including Dr. Judy Anderson and myself. The money raised through auctioning and fundraising will be donated to the Pyeongtaek Multicultural Center to support art education for multicultural children. I hope that this exhibition will help water the growth of future artists of various origins, not merely those of Korean seed.
